Call (585) 690-3024 or e-mail info@rochestercat.com

For e-mail or voice mail, please include the following information (in order of importance):

  • phone number
  • best times to reach you
  • your name
  • cat’s name, age, gender, neuter status
  • description of the problem

Your case will be attended to as quickly as possible, understanding that an unfortunate incident can quickly snowball into a major household problem.

Fees

$55 for first consultation (in-home or by phone, approximately 90 minutes)
$30 for each follow-up consult (by phone)

*Clients are responsible for long distance charges
*If outside Monroe County, a travel fee may be assessed

Note that other feline behavior consulting fees range from $80-$175 for the first consult, including the Cornell Animal Behavior Clinic, the Tufts Petfax service, Creature Counseling, LLC, and Oregon’s petbehaviorproblems.com. Many of these include veterinary advice. None of these, however, make house calls in the Rochester area. Cats behave atypically when taken to a clinic. Your best bet may be a house call from Cat Behavior of Rochester.

If you cannot afford our fees, please contact CBR. Or call the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm’s Pet Peeves Helpline at (585) 295-2999. You will leave a voice mail, and a volunteer will return your call within a few days. This is a free service.

Forms You Will Need

What You Can Expect From a Consult

We might talk through the situation on the phone. This could take 30 to 60 minutes. For many problems, a phone consult is sufficient. There are many simple solutions to common pesky problems.

Often, a house call is imperative. This may be needed if there are multiple cats, dogs, or people in the home, and/or if there is aggressive behavior. Territory is important to cats, and a consultant can learn much more by observing the territory. Also, cats’ body language is extremely important, and may be needed to understand the exact problem.

You will meet a person who is compassionate about both cats and their people. I understand the frustration that comes with confusion about your cat’s behavior and what to do. I also understand the fear that grips you when thinking about what the future may bring if this problem isn’t solved. You will get:

    • A quick response
    • A good listener, who is concerned, but can remain focussed and objective
    • Many questions about your cat and your household
    • Some background information about cat behavior, focused on your situation
    • A written set of recommendations which are based on ideas that are natural for your cat, and that you have indicated may be feasible for you (sample 1 sample 2)
    • A follow up call in appropriate time frame, depending on the case
    • Additional consulting, recommendations, and follow up

Disclaimer: CBR does not dispense medical advice. Many behaviors, such as house-soiling and sudden aggression, are symptoms of underlying physical problems. Please be sure to consult with your vet to rule out medical conditions before seeking a consult. After being cleared medically, we can work on any residual behavioral issues.

CBR cannot guarantee results. A cat’s behavior is a function of genetics, early life experiences, medical status, and the current environment. Like people, each cat is a unique organism. Many treatments work well for most cats, but may not work well for others.
